Fertile Ground: Conversations That Spark Growth
Studies show that African American Black LGBTQ individuals face disproportionate levels of health disparities and systemic barriers. Addressing these issues requires culturally competent care, improved access, and community based support tailored to their unique needs.
The Fertile Ground "Salon", is a Washington, DC based gathering for Black same-gender-loving (SGL) men to engage in meaningful conversations and cultural exchange. Inspired by the artists' discussion groups (Salons) of the Harlem Renaissance, we provide an alternative social experience focused on intellectual dialogue and informative entertainment, usually led by a subject matter expert. We explore relevant topics ranging from art, sports, and culture to politics, mental health, and spirituality. Though this forum, we seek to create a participant-driven space that challenges systemic obstacles, affirms identity, builds community, and seeds self-advocacy, creativity, new relationships and new perspectives. Simply put, our mission is to educate and to entertain, to create conversations that spark growth.
